TOURS FOR TRUE WINE CONNOISSEURS

We invite people, who are really fond of wine, to experience new tastes and smells, and learn about vine-growing and the origin of wines.

Armenia, which is one of the birthplaces of vine growing, has a rich history of viticulture that dates back to biblical times, when Noah planted a rescued grape vine at the foot of Mount Ararat after the biblical flood.

What makes grapes different from all other fruit is that the juice they yield bears a resemblance to blood and may sometimes substitute it by the way it affects the body. Wine has often symbolized the notion of the source of life during prosperity rites and rituals. There is a special feast for harvest and grapes, celebrated in the middle of August, when the grapes grow ripe. On that day vineyards were decorated with red ribbons and clothes and the gardeners brought the first bunches of ripe grapes to church to be sanctified.

This event coincided with the Virgin Transfiguration day, when up to this day Armenian Church performs a ceremony called “the benediction of the grapes”. If you choose this exciting tour from15 till 30 of August, you will get a chance to take part in the vintage and wine growing process.

Not a wine connoisseur? Not to worry. The best Armenian wine producers will offer you their wines and by the end of your visit you will surely become an expert.

There is a tradition in Armenia to choose a toast master during each Armenian feast and to laud the virtues of people at the table. You might even be asked to be the toast master (tamada). You will feel strong after imbibing this biblical drink and even become a professional toast master by the end of your visit.
